I lived in Atlanta for 20 years. I moved to Portland Oregon in 2005. There is no place like home. I would love to be able to say I'm living in B'ham now. The hot summers, red clay, the people. My sister finally came back to Birmingham after three years in Las Vegas and a year in Lexington. Given the right opportunity, I will come back too. Born and raised in Birmingham, after years of working for the City of Birmingham, and putting up with hiring freezes and other craziness, I finished my master's degree, followed the money, and relocated to Auburn. I miss all the art galleries, festivals, Five Points South, Vulcan, and hilly, curvy roads, but I am enjoying the convenience of everything being within a five-mile radius. Birmingham will always be home, but sometimes you need to take a break. Yes, I think that slogan sums up Birmingham perfectly.
