Git-R-Done: an economy of language
When I watched the “Comedy Central Roast of Larry the Cable Guy,” a figure caught my ear.
What’s a phrase that pays? Try “Git-R-Done,” the tri-syllabic call of Daniel Whitney, better known as Larry the Cable Guy.
How lucrative a phrase? In 2006, he was the highest-paid standup comedian around, pulling in $21.5 million in ticket sales that year. At about 80 to 90 shows a year, that’s more than $250,000 a night. That also earned him a spot at No. 81 on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list.
Not bad for a formerly generic standup. Or a simple redneck tagline that turned into a money-making mantra.
