Fox promoted the final episodes of “House” with “Live Forever” by Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors. Damn you, commercials!

•
Iceland’s Of Monsters and Men created this gorgeous story for “Little Talks.”

The Alabama Shakes came on strong this year with TV appearances and touring and critics’ raves. “Hold On” is the band’s debut single.
•
I am just in awe of OK Go. Each video is so inspired and intricate. “Needing/Getting” upped the ante leading up to the Super Bowl.
•
Classiest. Flash mob. Ever. The Volksoper in Vienna performs “Carmina Burana” at a train station.
Buy the orchestra’s music on Amazon or iTunes.

Under covers
Watching “Nashville” in its debut season, the producers cast YouTube stars Lennon and Maisy as musically talented daughters for Rayna James (Connie Britton). One of their hits is “Call Your Girlfriend” by Swedish pop singer Robyn. (Wait, which one’s Lennon and which one’s Maisy?)
Buy it on iTunes.
•
Knowing I love the original by Earth, Wind and Fire, a tweep sent me this quirky “September” cover by Pomplamoose.
•
Fifty-seven years into her singing career, Wanda Jackson teamed up with Jack White to record the 2011 album, “The Party Ain’t Over.” She’s here with the Lustre Kings performing Amy Winehouse’s hit, “You Know I’m No Good.”
•
Adele gets a two-fer in 2012. First up, “Rolling in the Deep” on a Chinese zither. As God intended it.
Buy the original song on Amazon or iTunes.
•
One Direction’s “Secrets” gets the violin looping treatment by Bryson Andres, performing in Spokane. (A noise ordinance might keep him away.)
Buy it on his site.
•
I adore Kina Grannis’ take on Coldplay’s “Fix You.”
Buy her songs on Amazon or iTunes.
•
Adele’s “Someone Like You” is the basis for a contest entry by Charlie Puth and Emily Luther. I nominate it for the sequel to “Once.”
•
Mystery Guitar Man didn’t just cover Fun’s “We Are Young” — he made it into a dynamic iPhone mosaic.
Buy the original on Amazon or iTunes.
